Alexander Nikolayevich Tkachev was born on December 23, 1960 in stanitsa Vyselky, Krasnodar Region.
After graduation from the Secondary School No. of stanitsa Vyselky in 1978 he entered the Krasnodar Polytechnical Institute. In 1983 having acquired the profession of a Mechanical Engineer he started to work at Vyselkovsky Interfarm Mixed Fodder Plant as a Heating Engineer and later on as a Chief Mechanical Engineer.
In 1986 he was elected as the First Secretary of Vyselky District Committee of the Young Communist League.
In 1990 he was elected as a Director of the Mixed Fodder Plant. In 1993 on his initiative this enterprise has been reorganized into JSC “Agrocomplex” and A.N. Tkachev was elected as a Director General.
The election of A.N. Tkachev as a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Region in 1994 can be regarded as the beginning of his profound political activity.
In 1995 Tikhoretsky Election District consisting of 11 towns and districts of the Region gave credence to him and elected him as a deputy of the State Duma of the second convocation, and in 1999 as a deputy of the State Duma of the third convocation. Tkachev worked also as a Chairman of the Committee of Nationalities of the State Duma.
The associates from the parliament elected A.N. Tkachev as an Assistant Chairman of the Agro-Industrial group of the State Duma for his firm attitude and active participation in solution of the existing rural problems. His is the Head of the Agrarian Union of Kuban.
On February 25, 2000 he defended the thesis in economics.
On December 3, 2000 he got victory in elections of the Head of Administration (Governor) of Krasnodar Region; 82.14 per cent of electors gave their votes for candidature of A.N.Tkachev.
On March 14, 2004 he has been re-elected for the second term. On March 30 of the same year A.N.Tkachev has officially taken the office of the Governor of Kuban at the ceremonial meeting of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnodar Region.
On December 17, 2004 he defended the thesis for Doctor of Economic Sciences degree.

1. Laureate of the “Peter the Great Award” (2002). The award “For the development and strengthening of the Russian State” is presented by resolution of the Presidium of the Academy of Security and Law Enforcement in the nomination “For the development and strengthening of the Russian State”.
2. Laureate of the National Award “For achievements in the sphere of Social-Economic and Cultural Development” (2002).
3. Laureate of the “Person of the Year” (2003) National Award.
4. Laureate of the Award “National Pride of Russia” in the nomination “For outstanding contribution to the increase of image of the Region” (2003).
5. Laureate of the Chief All-Russian Award “Russian National Olympus” in the nomination: “Statesman of Russia of 2002-2003”.
6. Laureate of the International Award “Leaders of Tourist Industry” in the nomination “Person of the Year” (2003).
7. Prizewinner of “Person of the Year” Grand Prix”; for personal contribution into development of the Russian political system awarded with the Order “Glory of Russia” (2004).
